Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Process Engineer to jump on site in a Polymer Manufacturing Facility. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of Process Engineers, driving innovation, safety, and efficiency in line with our Company strategy. Collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will ensure high engineering standards, compliance with regulations, and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Process Engineers, serving as the escalation point for resolving challenges and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Safety and Compliance: Oversee all safety, health, and environmental investigations related to Process Engineering, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities and communicating their benefits to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Capability Development: Provide coaching and mentoring to enhance Process Engineering capabilities across the organization. Develop new talent through mentoring programs and continuous professional development.
- Industry Collaboration: Foster relationships with industry, academia, and engineering companies to stay updated on best practices and efficiently deliver our strategic goals.
- Engineering Design: Own the Process Engineering design process for capital projects, ensuring designs align with statutory engineering standards.
- Process Safety: Collaborate with the Process Safety Engineer to ensure process safety compliance across plants and capital projects.
- Competency Standard: Maintain Process Engineering competency standards across the organization, creating development plans to align with manufacturing strategy.
- Resource Management: Ensure your team has the competent resources necessary to achieve business goals, including recruitment and third-party resourcing.
- Engineering Standards: Develop and implement engineering standards, ensuring compliance across all UK sites and efficient document management.
- Engineering Documentation: Oversee the generation and control of engineering documentation within the document management system.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Develop and maintain a network of Engineering Subject Matter Experts to meet the organization’s competency needs.
- Technical Authority: Lead as the technical authority for key processes, such as the Management of Change (MoC) process and discipline-related matters.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure compliance with statutory regulations for engineering assets, following best practices for hazardous area classification, Functional Safety, and more.
- Strategic Growth: Identify improvement opportunities to align with the long-term asset plan, driving strategic growth and sustainability.
- Design Excellence: Ensure new plant and equipment designs are technically robust and aligned with engineering standards and industry best practices.
Requirements:
- Proven experience leading a small engineering team, preferably in a chemical processing environment.
- Successful track record of delivering multi-discipline engineering projects and solutions.
- Demonstrable experience in COMAH regulated industrial plants.
- Proficiency in problem-solving complex challenges.
- Expertise in translating process engineering developments into viable manufacturing processes.
- Extensive knowledge of Process Engineering design, scale-up, assessment methodologies, and statutory regulations.
- Practical application of Process safety activities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including influencing senior management.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methods (e.g., lean six sigma) and project management.
Metrics:
- Manage a team of up to 10 in-house engineers and contract resources.
- Responsible for company engineering standards and regulatory compliance.
- Lead engineering design on projects up to £100 million in value.
- Oversee Process engineering aspects of over £300 million in manufacturing assets and up to £50 million per annum in capital projects.
- Lead Engineering forums and Process Engineering working groups for shared learning and best practices across UK plants.
